Are You Using the Right Shampoo? How to Tell If Your Hair Needs Moisture or Protein
Not sure if your shampoo is helping or hurting? The key to a great hair care routine lies in understanding whether your strands need moisture or protein... and getting the balance just right.
Hair that's dry, frizzy, or brittle is often crying out for moisture. Look out for rough textures and ends that snap easily. On the flip side, if your hair feels soft but limp, mushy when wet, or stretches too far before breaking, you’re likely low on protein, which helps rebuild the hair’s internal structure.
Can you have too much of a good thing?
In this case, you really can! Too much of either protein or moisture can cause problems. Overloading on protein can leave your hair stiff, straw-like, or prone to snapping. And if you flood already hydrated hair with too much moisture, it can become flat, lifeless, or overly stretchy; what we call “over-moisturised.”
To complicate things further, your roots and ends often need different things. You might have oily roots and dry, fragile ends, which means using the same product from root to tip could be doing more harm than good.
That’s why at GF Fabulosity, we’ve created five targeted ranges, from protein-rich to deeply moisturising, so you can tailor your hair care to what your scalp and strands actually need.
Oily roots and dry ends?
You may be looking for the Volumising Shampoo, with its Pink Clay base to absorb oil from the root and give lift at the scalp or the Energising Shampoo with its Acacia Collagen base to plump up the root and mid-length, paired with the Balancing or Reviving Conditioners to hydrate toward the ends.
